It is a converter that is used to convert the decimals (base 10) to fractions. It has a single text field where you will enter the decimal number and then click the ‘Convert' button. The results will be displayed below the controls in fractions. This calculator also gives you the formula used in executing the conversions.

The other active controls perform independent functions of the calculator. If you want to carry out new calculations, you will click the ‘Reset' button. It is one of the quickest ways of erasing the previous calculations giving enough space for more conversions. The ‘Swap' button is used to alternate the flow of calculations allowing you to convert the fractions to decimals.

The Stages of Conversion

  • The first step is to write the decimal as a fraction of the digits situated on the right of the decimal period and power of 10. The decimal period is the numerator while the power of 10 is the denominator.
  • The next step is to find the GCD (greatest common divisor) of both the numerator and denominator.
  • Lastly, minimize the fraction using the GCD to divide the numerator and the denominator.

Example;

Convert 0.46 to fraction

0.46 = 46 / 100

Determine the GCD of both the numerator and denominator.

GCD (46 / 100) = 2

The fraction should then be reduced by dividing the numerator and denominator using the GCD.

0.46 = (46 / 2) / (100 / 2) = 23 / 50

Using the Decimal to fraction converter

The first procedure is to enter the value 0.46 in the blank text field. Click the ‘Convert' button to initiate the calculation. The results will be indicated as;

Fraction result: 23 / 50

Calculation: 0.46

= 46/100

(GCD (46,100) = 2)

= 23/50

This calculator is faster and reliable since it delivers accurate results depending on the decimal number entered in the text field.
