The Percentage Change Calculator is a free online tool and is used to calculate a change in percentage using the initial and final values. It has two text fields and two control buttons that perform different functions of the calculator. The first procedure is to enter the initial or original value. The results of percentage change will be displayed below the two controls.

The ‘Reset’ button is used to erase all data of the previous values to allow for new calculations. It is one of the fastest ways of clearing the text fields. The calculation is also indicated on the bottom platform of the calculator below the percentage change result.

For example
If the initial value was 5 and the final value is 7. Find the change in percentage.

Enter 5 and 7 in the first and second text fields respectively before clicking on the ‘Calculate’ button.

The percentage change result = 40%

Calculation [(7-5) / 5] x 100% = 0.4 x 100% = 40%

Formula of calculating the percentage change

Percentage Change = (V new – V old) / V old x 100%, which means that they percentage change from the old to new value is computed by; the difference between the new and old values which is divided by the old value. The result is then multiplied by 100 percent.

For example
Determine the percentage increase from $1500 to $2500.

Initial Value = 1500

Final value = 2500

Percentage change = (2500 - 1500) / 1500 x 100%

= 1000/1500 x 100%

=0.666 x 100%

You can always repeat the same procedure with other new values after clearing the previous calculations using the ‘Reset’ button.
