It is a conversion calculator that is used to convert the values in inches (“) to meters (m). This calculator has three controls which execute various functions of the calculator. It has two types of text fields; ‘Fraction’ and ‘Decimal’ where you enter the value depending on whether it is in fraction or decimal. In the Fraction option, you are provided with three blank text fields that are arranged in a straightforward manner. You will enter the whole number in the first text box and the other two allow you to enter the values of the numerator and denominator respectively.

Click the “Convert” button to execute the conversion. It gives you accurate results depending on the values you entered in the required text fields. The results will be displayed in meters and meters + centimeters below the three controls. You can repeat the same procedure with new values after clicking the “Reset” button. It is used to erase all data of the previous calculations from the calculator. The “Swap” control alternates the flow of calculations allowing you to convert the values in meters to inches.

Convert 6 ½ inches to meters.

Solution

You will enter 6 in the first text box, then 1 and 2 as the numerator and denominator respectively. Click the “Convert” button to execute the conversion. The results will be displayed as;

Meters + centimeters result: 0 m 16.51 cm

Calculation: 6.5" × 0.0254

= 0.1651m

Formula of converting inches to meters

This calculator uses a simple formula to carry out the calculations.

1” = 0.0254m, which means that one inch is equivalent to 00254 meters.

The distance in meters is calculated by multiplying the distance in inches by 0.0254. This can be shown as;

D (m) = d (“) x 0.0254

For example;

Convert 30 inches to meters

D (m) = 30” x 0.0254 = 0,762m.
